Our hunting knife design is inspired by the mountain men and frontiersmen who tried to tame this land. The 7.5” blade has a classic look with a slight drop point. The large stainless steel bolster will protect your fingers from sliding onto the blade and a large tali wood handle will give you superior control of the knife, even while wearing gloves. The overall knife measures just over 12” and weighs 11 ounces without the sheath. The sheath has been custom designed to be worn holster style under your arm. This protects the knife from the elements but also gives you quick access to the knife when you need it. San Mai Steel comes from Japanese bladesmiths who would weld multiple steels together to create a strong, yet supple blade. The center of the blade is made of D2 steel and is sandwiched between two layers of stainless steel. D2 steel is your cutting surface and the two layers of stainless steel act as a protective barrier to the semi-stainless D2 layer of steel. As D2 has a higher carbon content, it is prone to rust if not dried and oiled, the stainless steel helps protect this layer of steel from the elements. Perfect for a hunting knife that needs to be very sharp but won’t rust while sitting in its sheath or being used in the mountains.
